Learning Objectives

1) Experience and describe the effects of Coherent Breathing and Breath moving on the mind and body of the participant.

2) Apply Polyvagal Theory to understanding how Voluntarily Regulated Breathing Practices (VRPs) help shift the organism from states of defensive disconnection towards a state of safety and connectedness.

3) Describe initiatives using mind-body techniques to relieve stress and trauma among survivors of war and terrorism in Ukraine and Rwanda.

4) Practice Coherent Breathing and other Voluntarily Regulated Breathing Practices (VRPs) for self-care and to reduce stress, anxiety, insomnia, depression, and symptoms of trauma.

5) Discuss the neurophysiological basis for the effects of Voluntarily Regulated Breathing Practices (VRBPs) on autonomic nervous system sympatho-vagal balance.

6) Summarize how to use Coherent Breathing to reduce or prevent symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD and burnout.

7) Access practice tools and further educational resources to support regular practice of VRBPs for personal stress management and skill development, as well as to maintain improvements attained through breathing, movement, and meditation practices learned in this presentation.

8) Describe the use of VRBPs for relief of anxiety, depression in survivors of mass disasters, during and after disasters.

9) Explain how VRBPs can increase energy and reduce exhaustion in healthcare workers.

10) Identify individuals who could benefit from learning VRBPs for relief of anxiety, depression and PTSD
